DSE...

Definition
DSE
DSE or Display Screen Equipment is a phrase often used in conjunction with office ergonomics and office safety. The term was used to describe any type of electronic input device.
When the European DSE Regulations 1992 came out equipmnent other than computers (or PCs) were common so this all encapsulating term was used to include other devices such as microfiches etc. As such the term is more commonly used in the UK.
By 2005 the term DSE and PC are used synonymously in most ergonomics texts.
DSE and e-Office Safety
DSE training
The DSE training is designed to give the DSE user the necessary information to carry out a ergonomics self-assessment of their workstation.
The e-learning is separated into 7 sections on seating, the desk (i.e. the DSE itself), typing, the monitor, the DSE work itself and health environment.
the demo
A FREE 10 user version of the DSE training software - e-Office Safety - can be run from this site. Click here to try out the ergonomics seating section and register to try the other ergonomics modules.

e-Office Safety also includes a fully customisable e-induction program. The health and safety module within this induction e-learning program includes the DSE training and assessment within e-Office Safety and other modules on fire safety, accidents and manual handling as well as workstation assessments and training. DSE assessments
The DSE assessment takes the form of an ergonomics checklist. The questionnaire is standard and has been written by the company ergonomist Emil Reisser-Weston MSc MErgS. The text in the ergonomic checklist can be changed using the content management system. Alternatively the system will link to any Learning Management System or Training Management System (SCORM compliant LMS) for complete customisation.
